Once you pass through the main gateway, you will notice a pavilion set on each side. Like flowery parasols, the one to the south is called the Dancing Dragon Pavilion, while the one to the north is named the Calling Phoenix Pavilion. The two together make an auspicious pair. The pavilions replace two metal towers erected for the temple’s 300th anniversary celebrations in 1968. The pentagonal rocket-shaped towers (named Anlong and Tianfeng) were donated, respectively, by Keliao Bao-An Temple (Beimen Township) and Jiatian Temple (Sanchong City). Rising salinity in the ground had severely corroded the structures when a decision was taken by the temple administration to replace them with pavilions of glazed brick. Together the two pavilions create a poetic and aesthetic whole, and are perfect spots to play a relaxing game of chess or enjoy a friendly chat.
